Lady Day- Honoring the Crone as Grandmother; Mother of the Mother.
The Grandmother / Women of Wisdom Group invites women of all ages to a
Rite of Passage – a “Croning Ceremony” celebrating women ages 60 and older
Encourage your mother, grandmother, friend or neighbor to be recognized, adored and honored in a fun ceremony that includes reflection, laughter, drumming, singing, dancing and the sharing of rich life stories
You have transitioned through the period of life as Maiden and Mother, and survived to enter the third and final stage - to claim the honored title of Crone. Each stage has been necessary and filled with both suffering and joy. Give yourself the time to reflect and journal on all that has passed and how you propose to live out this stage of your life.
During the ceremony you may share (up to about 5 minutes) with the assembled supporters something about:
Who I am
How far I have come
Where I am going next
What it means to me to be honored as Crone
A poem, prayer or song related to the third stage of your life
Select a photograph or treasured object to place on the ceremonial altar, if you like.
A woman may choose a new name for herself and announce it during the ceremony.
You may wish to invite important women in your life to join you at the ceremony to honor and witness this important transition in your life.
Often women select a celebratory or symbolic mode of dress for the celebration. Purple, black and silver are often chosen to represent the Crone; or one’s favorite colors. This is purely personal choice. The ceremony should be out of doors, so you will want to avoid shoes for walking in the grass.
If you would like to contribute flowers or food for the celebration, or bring a gift of beautiful rocks, shells, seed pods, special pieces of wood, etc. for others being Croned, you may do so, but it is not obligatory. You are the guest of honor!
