This is a happy time when the God and the Goddess are at the peak of their power and the sun is at its highest point. Midsummer is a beautiful time and romance and love are still in the air but we must think of the days gone by and those that are still to come because at this point we are halfway though the summer and moving towards the autumn with winter to follow. Now would be a great time to start picking and drying the first of the edible flower heads and storing them for teas , remedies and rituals or spell work.

Incense associated with Litha : Incense can be made using dried chamomile , gardenia, lavender and rose petals .
Purpose of Litha : This is a time of Purification and empowerment . The sun is high in the sky and plant life is growing well but from this day we start to move towards winter so we must remember to give thanks for the fruits of the earth that we have been blessed with . Good way of showing gratitude is to leave titbits for the bird and bees and summer fairies.
Litha Mead ( Non-Alcoholic )
2 whole lemons
2 pints water
1 cup honey
A good pinch of nutmeg , cinnamon, or allspice
Cut one of the lemons into quarters and add to large pot with the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. While the liquid is boiling a scum will rise to the top. This can be carefully removed with a tea strainer by running it round the sides of the pot and scooping up the scum. When the scum stops forming , add the juice of the second lemon and set to one side to cool.
